what is star trolley
AND WHY?
Every brand has a beginning, but some have a backstory that started long before the logo, the website, or the first ticket sold. Star Trolley is one of those brands. At its heart, Star Trolley is not a startup experiment or a trend-chasing tourism idea. It is the continuation of a transportation story that one person spent a lifetime building: Richard Adelizzi, a visionary who saw that passenger transportation could be more than logistics. He believed it could be an experience, a civic asset, and a living piece of heritage. Star Trolley exists to keep telling that story in a modern way, in a new city, under a new brand, with new leadership, and with the same respect for what came before.
The founder and current CEO of Star Trolley, Richard Novikas, came to the United States from Lithuania at 18 years old. His mother, Rita, immigrated to build a better life for her family, and in the United States she met Richard Adelizzi. That meeting created more than a marriage. It created a family, and it introduced a young immigrant to a mentor who would shape the way he saw work, responsibility, and what it means to build something that lasts. Over the years, Richard Adelizzi became many things at once: stepfather, teacher, advisor, and a steady force of discipline and standards. In a life where opportunities are not always evenly distributed, that mentorship became a turning point. It gave Richard Novikas front-row access to a world most people never see from the inside: the realities of running transportation operations, building vehicles, and delivering public-facing service that has to be safe, reliable, and respected.
Richard Adelizzi’s name is tied to a rare corner of the transportation world where history, tourism, and public service overlap. He helped revive and operate heritage trolley services, and he played a role in carrying forward companies that hold real historical weight. One of those names is the Five Mile Beach Electric Railway Company, founded in 1902, known for operating trolley service in New Jersey’s shore communities. Another is Cable Car Concepts, widely cited as tracing back to 1964 and associated with early trackless replica trolley manufacturing in the United States. These names matter not because of nostalgia alone, but because they represent something increasingly rare: transportation built with identity, craftsmanship, and pride.
Over decades of work, Adelizzi built a reputation in this niche by doing two things at once. He operated trolley services in multiple communities, proving the model in the real world, and he also helped advance the manufacturing and design of trolley vehicles known for their durability and character. Those vehicles made their way far beyond one local market, with units sold across the country and beyond. The legacy is not just a story told in family conversations. It is visible in places where trolley vehicles became part of a city’s visual identity and daily circulation.
That brings the story to Florida, where Star Trolley was born. St. Petersburg is not a random location on the map. It is a city where heritage-style trolley vehicles have been part of the transportation landscape, and where the public and visitors respond to experiences that feel authentic rather than generic. For Richard Novikas, building Star Trolley in St. Petersburg was not about copying the past. It was about honoring what he learned from it and applying it to a new era. Star Trolley is not a takeover. It is not an inherited company. It is an independent venture, created from scratch, shaped by personal history, and built with a clear intention: to deliver transportation that is operationally serious, visually iconic, and memorable for the people who ride it.
In a tourism city where the sun does not take seasons off and celebrations never stop, Star Trolley was designed to serve both sides of what transportation can be: dependable movement and unforgettable moments. Tours, weddings, private events, and civic partnerships all require the same underlying standard: get it right, every time, with a level of pride that passengers can feel. That standard is the real legacy. And that is the reason Star Trolley exists.
